About Save Ferris

Save Ferris was born in Orange County, California in 1995. The ska-punk band is led by vocalist Monique Powell, who introduced the band’s first EP “Introducing Save Ferris” on her own Starpool Records label in 1996. The band managed to sell nearly 20,000 copies of the EP from the trunks of their cars to fans and local record shops.

Throughout the late 1990s, the band toured the country and appeared on television shows and movie soundtracks. The band received a Grammy showcase award for best unsigned band, ultimately leading to their recording contract with Epic Records. The first full-length album for Epic “It Means Everything” was released in 1997, featuring re-recorded tracks from their first EP as well as several new songs. Their most popular single from the album was “Come on Eileen,” a cover of the 1982 Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ song. The band also appeared in “10 Things I Hate About You” in 1998.

“It Means Everything” ultimately produced two Billboard top 100 singles and went platinum internationally. In 1999, the band released their second album “Modified.” The album was a change from the ska-punk sound to the pop-punk genre. Three songs from the album made Top Ten hits in Mexico and Japan.

The band dissolved and went on an indefinite hiatus in 2003. In 2013, Monique regrouped the band and began touring again as Save Ferris. In 2016, Save Ferris held a Pledge Music campaign to raise money for a new album. With the support of their fans, the goal was met within two weeks. In 2017, they released the EP “Checkered Past”, the first release from the band in 18 years.

The band’s name is a reference to the 1986 film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
